Maternity Photo-Shoot on the Beach

Photography by Rosie Anderson

When Jen and Mark got in touch with me to ask if I would do a maternity photo-shoot I jumped at the chance because I’d never done one before. They were expecting their first baby and at nearly eight months pregnant Jen looked enviably lovely with the neatest of baby bumps. We took a stroll along the beach at Budleigh Salterton in Devon – the sun broke through the clouds and we were blessed with some beautiful soft afternoon sunlight. I remembered this by Sylvia Plath.

“What did my fingers do before they held him?
What did my heart do, with its love?
I have never seen a thing so clear.
His lids are like the lilac-flower And soft as a moth, his breath.
I shall not let go.
